iPod-Cloner Reviewer's Comments
Everything we love about DVD Cloner's DVD copy software, has now been carried over to DVD Cloner’s iPod converter iPod-Cloner. iPod-Cloner can take all your home DVDs and convert them to iPod size files and formats with as little as one click. However, as much as we like iPod-Cloner its inability to convert additional video formats kept it out of our top three.
Special Note: We’d like to inform readers that according to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 it is illegal to use software that breaks or circumvents DVD encryptions. The software reviewed in this site should only be used for placing DVDs and videos on your iPod that do not include copyright protections, i.e. home movies.
Unlike most of the programs we reviewed, iPod-Cloner can transfer movies to your iPod without using iTunes.
iPod-Cloner can also perform most of the usual tasks like adjusting output dimensions, cropping and convert by title. We were a little disappointed to find that iPod-Cloner was unable to convert multiple chapters in a batch. You can either choose to convert all titles on the disc, or choose specifics one at a time. iPod-Cloner works with all models of iPod including the iPod Touch and iPhone; however you have to manually type the 360 height into the field to properly fit the screen.
Additionally, you will need to use iTunes to transfer video converted for the Touch or iPhone.
Ease of Use:
We found iPod-Cloner easy to use especially if you are familiar with DVD Cloner’s DVD copy software. The button above the play button will take you to all the advanced features, but the defaults will work for most.
Quality of DVD:
The quality of the DVDs converted using iPod-Cloner was good and comparable to the other top products we reviewed. The audio and video were in sync and we did not experience any jumping or file corruption.
Quality of Video:
Unfortunately, iPod-Cloner does not work with multiple file formats. It can only convert files uploaded from a DVD or MiniDVD format.
Speed of Conversion:
We found that iPod-Cloner would convert a file in about half the time it would take you to watch it. For example, a one video would take about a half hour to convert.
Help/Support:
iPod-Cloner is so easy to use it is likely you will not need support; however, the software includes a built-in guide and there is a short list of FAQs online. They also include email contact and live chat support. However, their availability is limited and only online from 6 pm to 2 am PST and 9 pm to 5 am EST.
Summary:
If you are familiar with DVD Cloner DVD Copy understanding iPod-Cloner will be a breeze. The easy to use interface and navigation make this a great program for novices. In the future we would like to see DVD Cloner Inc. incorporate additional support for other video formats like AVI or WMV.
