Convert DVDs and home videos in less time than the average conversion software with ImTOO DVD to iPod Suite, our “TopTenREVIEWS Silver Award” winning DVD to iPod software. ImTOO does a great job of converting DVDs and video files with high picture and audio quality.

ImTOO is almost identical to our Bronze Award winning product, Xilisoft. In fact, the two companies have formed a working partnership where they jointly research and develop better ways of converting DVDs and video files. They are, however, independently owned and licensed. However, we found that both products had some difficulty with certian DVDs, especially those manufactured by Sony.

ImTOO has had a Mac version of DVD/Video to iPod Software for some time, which earned it our #2 spot, whereas Xilisoft has just recently released their Mac version. ImTOO also works with Windows Vista.

Features Set:  

ImTOO provides high quality video conversions. Some of the features allow you to specify where you want the movie conversion to begin and end to avoid movie previews and lengthy ending credits. The features also enable you to encode several saved movies at the same time and record audio from a video file and save it to an MP3 player.

Remember that no software is perfect. We found ImToo had some difficulty ripping DVDs released by Sony pictures.

Ease of Use:  

ImTOO is very easy to use. However, because of the layout (with the most useful features built–in to the viewing screen) you may expect extra features in the menu bar, but they aren’t really there. Also, start and stop times need to be manually entered.

Quality of DVD:  

With many of the products we tested, it was common to encounter problems with the picture, such as stretching or pixilation. We never had these problems with ImTOO. In fact, the picture was perfect. Another common problem with conversion software deals with synchronization. Each test of ImTOO resulted in perfectly synchronized picture and audio.

Quality of Video:  

Video quality in ImTOO is high. You have to look hard to find any problems. During our testing, we played the copy in a window next to the original and we could see a few imperfections. The picture quality showed occasional pixilation and the color was slightly less vivid than the original. However, compared to the lower ranked software, the quality is above standard.

Speed of Conversion:  

ImTOO converts DVDs and video files more than two times faster than it would take to watch the movies. It does, however, perform slightly better with DVDs than it does with video files. It takes roughly a third of the time to convert as it does to watch.

Help/Support:  

ImTOO has extensive guides and FAQs. Additionally, their email support is helpful. If you have any problems with ImTOO’s DVD/Video to iPod suite, you’re sure to get it resolved in a hurry.

ImTOO also has a similar suite for Mac.  

Summary:  

ImTOO provides high–quality DVD and video file conversions in a very short period of time. The software is easy to use and understand and the support documents are extremely helpful.
